I think you are missing just how nefarious Musk's "misinterpretation" of the data is. I'm pretty sure this isn't a "mistake", but rather an intentional misunderstanding, actually a misrepresentation, of the data designed to support the false story Musk and his minions have been hired to tell. So, Musk isn't stupid; he's evil. This is an important distinction, because it requires more effort to extirpate evil. Stupid will die off under the weight of its own errors; dealing with evil is a much heavier lift.
